For over six decades now, Olympia Sports has been producing all-weather gloves for motorcyclists, snowmobile riders and even skiers. The company’s main purpose, as stated by them, is to provide the best quality product at a value-oriented price point. The 4150 Gore-Tex All-Season Glove is sold in their catalog at the premium level and yet has a rather tiny price tag, and you will see why they put this winter mitt the catalog in the following review.
The All-Season uses Olympia’s Auto Cuff closure system that possesses a unique function; pull on the thumb side to loosen it, pull on the pinky side to tighten. It makes suiting up simple, but takes some practice. Flexible knuckle padding with ribbed stitching protects the top of the hand and retro-reflective piping makes these gloves stand out on the nighttime streets. A nice touch is the thumb-mounted goggle/shield wiper strip. Between the fingers is more stretch material, as in the center of the knuckle guard, for greater flexibility.
Underneath the gauntlet is another closing strap which uses hook and loop to keep things tight as you like; if properly fastened, the All-Season will not come off your hands until you want it to. A novel reinforcement area runs up from the palm and into the inside area of the thumb which absorbs pressure to give long-distance comfort. You will certainly notice - and feel - the way Olympia put effort into ensuring this glove has a balanced design throughout; it simply fits like a glove should.
The multitude of ways to seal the gloves, the liners and the overall construction all add up to a completely waterproof and insulating glove. Olympia thought out the All-Season very well and it wears comfortably, flexes enough for reaching levers and going through the controls, and keeps you warm and dry for however long you have them on your hands. The gloves will get heavy when they get wet, but that is how it is with cowhide. Don’t worry, though, your hands will still be warm and dry.
Overall, the Gore-Tex All-Season gloves are attractive (as far as this entry can be), durable, flexible, weatherproof, comfortable and perfectly viable as motorcycle gloves. What more could you want from a glove which only retails for US$79.95.
